Blog 2 - Beginning of the Atlantic Division

The Overwatch League (OWL) has divided they're games into two divisions: Atlantic and Pacific. The first teams we'll be covering are in the Atlantic division: the Houston Outlaws and the Florida Mayhem. This will serve as a basic introduction to the team members, going over who they are and any past experiences before becoming part of the Overwatch League. The roster lists will not include players that are on a two-way contract with the parent organization and its academy team. All players and coaches will be referenced as they're in-game usernames after introductions.

Houston Outlaws

Coaches and Management

The Outlaws’ parent company is  OpTic Gaming, who owns teams in other eSports such as Call of Duty, League of Legends, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Management of the team consists of owner Hector ‘H3CZ’ Rodriguez (CEO of OpTic Gaming), GM Matt 'flame’ Rodriguez, Tae-yeong "TaiRong" Kim as head coach, and assistant coaches Adam 'Mesr' De La Torre, Kim Hyun-woo, and former Outlaws player Matthew 'Clockwork’ Dias.  Flame was a former player in the early days of the competitive Overwatch scene. He also served as an analyst for Alienware's Monthly Melee tournaments and the 2017 Overwatch World Cup. Mesr was another player who entered into Overwatch very early on. He already had professional gaming experience in the Counter-Strike and Team Fortress 2 scenes and played on Team Liquid's Overwatch roster for more than a year. Kim Hyun-Woo and TaiRong were the former coaches for Korean Overwatch team Afreeca Freecs.

The player roster is made up of 10 players in four various positions: Tank players who create space for the other members to make plays, Damage players whose main job is to deal damage to the opposing team with the goal to eliminate them, Support players whose supposed to heal their team, and Flex players who can play in any of the other positions.

Roster

Tank Players

Starting with the Tank position, the Outlaws have enlisted Austin 'Muma’ Wilmont, Matt 'coolmatt’ Iorio, and Alexandre 'Spree’ Vanhomwegen. Muma has played Team Fortress 2 competitively and formed Overwatch teams Gale Force E-Sports and later FNRGFE with fellow teammates coolmatt, Clockwork, Bani, and Boink. He plays alongside Matt ‘coolmatt’ Iorio and, depending on the match’s circumstance, will play with Alexandre ‘Spree’ Vanhomwegen who was a former Overwatch player for Luminosity Gaming and the FaZe Clan organizations.

Damage

Houston has four Damage (DPS for short) players: Jiri 'LiNkzr' Masalin switched to Overwatch after playing competitive Dirty Bomb for Planetkey Dynamics. He would later join other teams such as Team Dignitas and famous Finnish team Team Gigantti before joining the Outlaws.

Jacob 'JAKE' Lyon was another player migrating from Team Fortress 2. He played on Luminosity Gaming Evil and has his own blog highlighting eSports topics called Mind Games.

Jeong 'ArHaN' Won-yeop is the only South Korean player on this Texas team. He played for large South Korean teams such as Afreeca Freecs and Meta Athena, but was always looked at as an average player. The final DPS player for the Outlaws is Dante 'Danteh' Cruz. Danteh was originally a Minecraft player/Youtuber who decided to take up Overwatch. The Outlaws acquired Danteh from fellow League team the San Francisco Shock, who will be discussed later.

Support

Shane "Rawkus" Flaherty is a support player that had played along side Spree while in the FaZe Clan and played for the American Overwatch World Cup team with Muma, Jake, and coolmatt. Daniel "Boink" Pence has a long history with the other members of the Outlaws; he played in Gale Force e-Sports and FNRGFE with Muma, Clockwork, Bani, and coolmatt. Chris 'Bani' Benell (Pictured) is the team's main support player and has played on the 2018 Overwatch World Cup team for Team Canada.

Florida Mayhem

Coaches and Management

The Florida Mayhem is owned by Ben Spoont, CEO and Co-Founder of team Misfits, an eSports team known for titles in Overwatch and League of Legends. The head coach of this Florida team and former coach of Misfits is Vytis 'Mineral' Lasaitis. He is assisted by Marvin 'Promise' Schröder, who coached the Mayhem Academy team that plays in Overwatch's tier 2 scene Contenders.

Players

Tank

During the first season of the League, Florida Mayhem had a predominately Swedish and Finish team, but many of the players were released and the Mayhem is now almost a full Korean team. Kim 'SNT' Sung-hoon (formerly aWesomeGuy) joined the Mayhem team midway through the first season. He played on Meta Athena with Houston Outlaws' ArHan. Yoon 'Swon' Seong-won is Florida's second tank player who played on various Korean teams such as Kongdoo Panthera and the American team NRG eSports.

Damage

Kevyn 'TviQ' Lindström is the only player from the original Florida Mayhem roster. He has played since Overwatch's competitive scene began, having migrated from Team Fortress 2. Joining him in the DPS role is Ha 'Sayaplayer' Jung-woo. played with SNT on Meta Athena and followed him after the Mayhem picked him up mid-season. Formerly of X6-Gaming, Lee 'BQB' Sang-bum is the newest addition of the Florida Mayhem.

Support

Choi 'Kris' Jun-soo came from Meta Athena, like a good majority of his fellow OWL players. His fellow support team member is no stranger to OWL and competitive Overwatch. Jo 'HaGoPeun' Hyeon-woo was released from league team the London Spitfire, before joining Mayhem Academy. He was promoted to the main roster after the Mayhem Management decided to clean house and sign new players.
